Frequently Asked Questions
How much do Osher Scholars receive? Each Osher Scholar receives an award based upon the number of credit hours they have left until graduation and the number of credits they are taking each semester.
When do scholars receive their award? Osher Scholars currently receive their award after the semester starts but before the deferment period ends, which is approximately halfway through the semester.
Do students have to reapply every semester? No, but students do have to apply annually. University College currently has to reapply annually to the Bernard Osher Foundation to have the grant that supplies the scholarship renewed. Once we have received confirmation, we ask our Osher Scholars to submit their reapplication paperwork. All Osher Scholars are contacted when it is time to apply.
Does the scholarship cover summer coursework? While we hope in the future to be able to serve our students year round, the Osher Reentry Scholarship currently does not cover summer coursework.
Is there are financial need requirement? Yes. Financial eligibility is determined by the Financial Aid Office. For more information on your financial aid, please contact the Financial Aid Office at 813-974-4700.
Can the scholarship be used for graduate level (5000 & 6000 level) coursework? No. The Osher Reentry Scholarship is designed to help students complete their first baccalaureate degree and does not cover graduate level classes.
Do I need to be a full-time (12 credit hours)student to qualify for the scholarship? No, however financial aid does require that students be enrolled for a minimum of six (6) credit hours to be eligible for financial aid. You can find out more about financial aid eligibility here.
